Mode of Examination
The Paper-1 (described below) of JEE (Main) will be conducted in two separate modes i.e. Offline (Pen and Paper Based Examination) mode and Online (Computer Based Examination) mode. The Paper-2 of JEE (Main) will be conducted only in Pen and Paper based examination mode. A candidate will opt for either Pen and Paper Based or Computer Based examination modes for Paper-1 only.

Type of Examination
JEE (Main) – 2013 shall have two papers, Paper-1 and Paper-2. Candidates may take Paper-1, or Paper-2, or both as per the course(s) they are seeking admission to. Subject combination for each paper, type of questions in each paper and mode of examination available is given in the table below

In case the examination fee is paid through credit/debit cards, the candidates will need to pay an additional processing charge of 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable.

Candidates who wish to appear in Paper-1 and Paper-2 both, may kindly note that Paper-2 will be conducted only in Pen and Paper based examination mode. If they opt for Paper-1 in Computer based examination mode, the Paper-1 will be held between 08.04.2013 and 25.04.2013 while Paper-2 will be held on 07.04.2013 in the cities for computer based examination during 02:00-05:00PM

Eligibility for appearing in JEE (Main) – 2013

  • Top 20 Percentile in Class XII
  • Score in JEE Main Test
  • score in JEE Advanced Test
    Students who will appear in the Top 20 percentile of their respective XII board exam will be deemed qualified for IITs. Students have to score following State-wise percentage to be eligible for IITJEE test:
  • Less than 50%: Meghalaya & Nagaland.
  • 50% - 60%: Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Orissa, Tripura, Uttarakhand, West Bengal.
  • 60% - 70% : Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, National Open School.
  • 70% - 80%: CBSE, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu.
  • Above 80% : Andhra Pradesh.
  • For JEE MAIN 2013, candidates who passed 2 exam in 2011 or2012 or appearing in 2013 are only eligible to appear. Candidates are allowed maximum of 3 consecutive attempts.

    Date of Birth

    Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1988 are eligible. However, in the case of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e. SC, ST and PwD candidates who were born on or after October 01, 1983 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will only be considered.

    Year of Passing Qualifying Examination (QE)

    Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2010 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2014 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)-2013. Candidates who appeared in class 12th/other Qualifying Examinations in 2010, did not pass in 2010, but passed in 2011 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2013.

    Number of Attempts

    The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be Limited to 03 (three).

 *The exact slots/dates for computer based examination shall be displayed on the website by 1st February 2013. The candidates will be required to make their slot/date selection through online mode during 1st February 2013 – 15th February 2013. A candidate who opts for computer based examination and does not make this selection, for whatever reasons, shall be randomly assigned a slot based on the availability.

Negative marking – for each incorrect response, one fourth (1/4) of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No response will mean no deduction of marks.

Where and How to Send the Confirmation Page

The Confirmation Page is to be printed on A-4 size paper and kept in an A-4 size envelope/proper size envelope. The completed Confirmation Page must be sent only by registered/speed post to the Executive Director JEE (Main) - 2013 at the address given below.

The computer generated Confirmation Page with photographs pasted, address written, signed by the candidate, signed by the parent and counter signed by the Principal/Gazetted Officer must reach the JEE (Main) Secretariat on or before 26th December 2012.

REMARKS:

STATE CODE OF ELIGIBILITY

State Code of eligibility means the Code of the State from where the candidate has passed Class 12th / Other qualifying examination by virtue of which he/she becomes eligible to appear in the JEE (Main) for admission to B.E/B.Tech and B.Arch/B. Planning Courses of the institutions/ Colleges of the States/UT. Indian nationals passing the equivalent qualifying examination from an institution abroad, the State of Eligibility will be determined on the basis of permanent address in India as given in the Passport of the candidate.

Reservation of seats

As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. These categories are:

I. Other Backward Classes (OBC) if they belong to Non Creamy Layer (NCL)

II. Scheduled Castes (SC)

III. Scheduled Tribes (ST)

IV. Persons with Disability (PwD)

Benefit of reservation for admission to NITs/IIITs and CFTIs shall be given only to those classes/castes/tribes which are in the respective central list published by the Govt of India. For admission to State Engineering colleges who have opted for admission through JEE (Main)-2013, the reservation rules of that state shall apply
